Wedding Update: March 2008 Archives

Rachel is happy.  She's found a dress.  Up-and-coming fashion designer Marco Morante (dba as Marco Marco) will be designing and building Rachel's dress for an affordable flat-fee.

"We were told he can make a $600 dress look like a $2000 dress," said Rachel.  And that's exactly what he intends to do.  Muchos thanks go to Mageina Tovah... she had a wonderful dress designed by Morante for her trip down the runway for Spiderman 2.

AND... Morante apparently also designs a bunch of the dresses for the American Idol finalists.  So how much better can you get?

Calligraphy...

So we're working on our invites for the wedding.  And what could be better than getting those invites in hand-written calligraphy?  How about getting it absolutely free?

We were, and still are in a way, going to use the good 'ol computer to print up the invites.  So I downloaded a bunch of fonts to try out.  They look good, but... it's just so computer-y.  The letters aren't connected, and there's no nuance to the text.  So I thought, well, I'll just call a few calligraphy companies.  How much can it cost them to write ONE invite?  We can then take that one invite, scan it into the computer and print it out on the invites.

Well, it turns out that one invite (called a template), costs upwards of $250 dollars.  F that.

We went out this weekend and I bought a calligraphy set.  The example above is from my first attempt ever to write in calligraphy.  It's not easy, but it's not impossible.  And I only have to do it perfect once.  It's not like I'm hand-writing each envelope... yet.
Kris&RachelStamp.jpgSo Rachel and I are in the process of finalizing our invites... we promise we'll get them out very soon... when this brain-storm hit me.

A while back, Rachel asked me if I could create a stamp to represent our wedding.  Nothing sprang to mind.  Should I do some interpretive symbol using our initials?  Should I craft our family shield?

No... it was simpler than that.  I just took one of my favorite photos of us -- it's even featured on the frontpage for krisandrachel.com -- and turned it into stamp.

Enjoy.
